چکیده

This paper proposes a new algorithm for a class of binary images thinning by using two PCNNs (pulse coupled neural networks). Once the travelling pulses of the two PCNNs meet, the thinning result is obtained. The criterion of pulses meeting is given, and the parameters of the PCNNs are also specified, which make the implementation of the proposed thinning algorithm easier. The algorithm is used to thin such a class of binary images, which separate the original images into two regions, as circularity-like images and ribbon-like shapes. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is efficient in extracting the skeleton of images (such as circularity-like images, ribbon-like shapes, handwriting ‘0’, etc.). r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Sufficient Conditions for Order-Independency in Sequential Thinning

The main issue of this paper is to introduce some conditions for templatebased sequential thinning that are capable of producing the same skeleton for a given binary image, independent of the visiting order of object points. As an example, we introduce two order-independent thinning algorithms for 2D binary images that satisfy these conditions.

Motion Estimation in Digital Angiographic Images Using Skeletons

This paper deals with the estimation of the motion field in digital angiographic sequences. An approach is developed according to which each frame is first segmented into a moving object of interest and the background. The original images are converted into binary images by using a Gaussian smoothing filter and thresholding. In the binary images, pixels in moving objects have the value of "1" a...

Directional 3D Thinning Using 8 Subiterations

Thinning of a binary object is an iterative layer by layer erosion to extract an approximation to its skeleton. In order to provide topology preservation, different thinning techniques have been proposed. One of them is the directional (or border sequential) approach in which each iteration step is subdivided into subiterations where only border points of certain kind are deleted in each subite...

Unsupervised Change Detection in Remote Sensing Images Using Pulse Coupled Neural Network

In this paper we propose a context sensitive technique for unsupervised change detection in multitemporal satellite images of same scene using Pulse coupled neural network. PCNN is a novel artificial neural network which is developed in 1990 and based on visual cortex of cats. The binary images generated by each iteration of the PCNN algorithm create specific signatures of the scene which are c...

Extracting medial curves on 3D images

This paper proposes a 2-subfield thinning algorithm for extracting medial curves on 3D binary images where the set of all voxels of an image is partitioned into two isometric subsets and the algorithm works alternatively on each subset at a time. The thinning algorithm is proved to preserve topology. An algorithm for verifying the topology soundness of thinning algorithms should be established ...
